How do bowling shoe sizes work?

I want to order some bowling shoes offline, but am unsure what size to order.

I am Australian, I am ordering from the U.S and as far as I know the sizes (regular sizes) are the same, I am unsure of whether to order my regular size (8.5) or my bowling shoe size (6.5), as the brand I am after is Dexter, and I have been told they are the same.

I just don’t want to waste money on shoes that are the wrong size! Thanks

yes the do run the same i wear 9.5 regular and the same for bowling shoes
when i ordered mine on line they had a small fee of $5 if they didn’t fit i could send them back and they would exchange them
